Coco had not only made women’s apparel different and unique, but she had also liberated women with a more complex variety of fascinating designs. The signature colors of her designs were, black, white, beige, red, and gold, but mainly black and white. According to Coco, black was a color of elegance and reveals a women’s radiance. Black is a color of authority and strength which seems to look well on everyone. Coco quoted, “I imposed black; it still going strong today, for black wipes out everything else around.” Coco used white because it captures light, aluminates the face, and enhances beauty. She also quoted, “Women think of all colors except the absence of color. I have said that black has it all. White too. Their beauty is absolute. It is the perfect harmony.”
Not only did Coco create liberation and a whole new look for women, but for herself as well. She shortened her hair and wore her own clothing with pride and confidence. The iconic style she imposed included faux pearls, diamonds, gold chains, and timeless red lipstick. A lot of times she wore red lipstick, and referred to it as the color of life. Red lipstick became her signature and her declaration of good spirit. “If you’re sad, add more lipstick and attack. Men hate women who weep,” Coco said.
